According to Forbes, Dr. Fauci is the highest paid U.S. federal employee. In fact, if the top salaries in the U.S. government are examined, most are medical officers. What does this tell about compensation? That the value of talent can trump notions of hierarchy of position and corresponding pay levels. The fact that Dr. Fauci is a medical professional drives his pay more than the fact that he is a government employee.
